Brazilian Zouk, (aka Zouk Lambada) is a partner dance form—originating from the Brazilian Lambada, as danced to Caribbean Zouk music. In Rio, Brazilian Zouk branched off from its Lambada predecessor and incorporated Jazz, Samba, Bolero, Tango and other social dance forms into its technique. Its practitioners continue to dance it to an ever-widening range of musical genres, from R&B to EDM. We will begin with a solo movement warm-up inspired by the forms and rhythms of Brazilian Zouk and Lambada. We will explore our relationship to the ground and experiment with how shapes can reverberate throughout our bodies -- from the feet, through the hips and to the head. Then we'll move into partnerwork, using Brazilian Zouk to explore the principles of consent, connection and flow with another. We will learn the foundational techniques and forms that will help you to dance at a Zouk social, or that you may incorporate into your Ecstatic Dance practice.

5Rhythms with Henya Emmer
5Rhythms is a movement meditation practice created by the late Gabrielle Roth in the 1970s. It draws from indigenous and world traditions drawing elements from shamanistic, ecstatic dance, mystical and eastern philosophy. It also draws from Gestalt therapy, the human potential movement and transpersonal psychology. Fundamental to the practice is the idea that everything is energy, and moves in waves, patterns and rhythms. Roth describes the practice as a soul journey, and says that by moving the body, releasing the heart, and freeing the mind, one can connect to the essence of the soul, the source of inspiration in which an individual has unlimited possibility and potential. The practice of the 5Rhythms is said by Gabrielle Roth to put the body in motion in order to still the mind. The five rhythms (in order) are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. The 5Rhythms, when danced in sequence, are known as a "Wave." A typical Wave takes about an hour to dance.’ Looking forward to moving through this Wave together with you all. Henya is an NYC based certified 5Rhythms® facilitator, community organizer, and event producer. Recently known for creating "5R in the Park" A 5Rhythms Silent Disco dynamic movement experience in NYC Parks. Providing a space for NYC to dance safely and in community throughout the pandemic. Wake & Shake with Quiet Hours ft. Mr Atwood
Start your morning off on a high vibe during Wake & Shake with Quiet Hours! We will begin our practice with an opening circle, connecting as a community, connecting to the land, and connecting to our bodies and hearts with our breath. Melissa (glitter.and.sage) will guide some light breathwork, intention setting, yoga, and movement, that will lead into a fun Ecstatic Dance with a live DJ set from Mr Atwood (@mratwoodmusic), dancing with the rising sun! We will close our practice as we began in a connection circle, to come back and ground together. This experience will feature our silent disco headphones, to more deeply connect with the music and to be mindful to any friends camping and sleeping in.
